Simplot - A Sample Design Process

Our graphic design processes vary slightly by client and project requirement, but generally include the following:

1 - Concept Development

Using the client's content, objectives and timing, we explore a series of design solutions. Often, we'll generate a quick wireframe which suggests informational hierarchies, and helps visualize options while content is still being created. Wireframes deliberately avoid style and color treatments, which helps isolated decisions to "what" is being said, leaving "how" for subsequent rounds.

2 - explore design solutions

If brand standards exist, we follow those parameters. if not, we explore a range of possible design solutions that fit with what we know of the client, customer and objectives. With long-term clients, we frequently involve early in the explorations, which can speed decisions while keeping costs down.

3 - final revisions for approval

Driven by client feedback and user testing, we fine tune a final design direction. Occasionally, this is the final step, but when production includes a photo shoot or other custom artwork, we mock-up final lower cost placeholders.

4 - Oversee final production

We typically oversee design all the way through production, which includes pricing multiple printers, and providing press ready digital artwork to the chosen vendor(s). We typically prepare digital files for pre-press and specific production limitations, art direct and retouch or color correct final photography.
