Packaging Design
Well designed packaging is one of the most cost effective, long lasting sales efforts you can make. Packages sitting in a retail environment work to sell your product 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without asking for a raise or sales commission.
We've done packaging for some great clients. Join us.
Package Design Process
Our packaging design process varies by client and project requirement, but generally includes the following steps:
1 - Research and Competitive Audit
We practice armchair psychology. Package design process starts by exploring what motivates a target audience. We try to consider what drives customer behavior, and why they buy.
2 - explore design solutions
We typically explore a range of packaging solutions. Most of our design never makes it to production, but serves to eliminate mediocre ideas, and enable high fidelity user testing.
3 - final revisions for approval
Driven by client feedback and user testing, we fine tune a final package direction. Occasionally, this is the final step, but when production includes a photo shoot or other custom artwork, we mock-up final artwork using lower cost placeholder images.
4 - Oversee final production
We typically oversee design all the way through production, which includes pricing multiple printers or packaging manufacturers, and providing press ready digital artwork to the chosen vendor(s). We typically prepare digital files specific to production limitations, plus art direct and retouch or color correct final photography.
5 - Monitor Results
We encourage tracking sales results over time. In this example of updated packaging, sales doubled the month it was rolled out, and sustained over at least the next 12 months (end of our monitoring). The positive results spurred a subsequent brand extension to over 80 related packages. Results vary. Sometimes they're even better...
